Tradition, small stages, and a clear week: Porto Alegre, Aug 31-Sep 6

The Farroupilha grounds are the city’s main gathering point, but the week also has intimate music, cinema, art, and a useful update on flood-protection works.

Start September with the city’s biggest free cultural event, then choose a smaller room for the rest of the week.

1. Acampamento Farroupilha 2026(opens in a new tab). The free event continues through September 20 at Parque Harmonia, Av. Edvaldo Pereira Paiva, 63. It is the week’s best low-commitment plan: walk among the piquetes, eat regional food, and use the official program to choose a show.

2. Via Sacra Missioneira(opens in a new tab). On Saturday and Sunday, September 5-6, at 8pm, this new theatre-and-music production takes the Jayme Caetano Braun stage inside the Acampamento. Go for the 2026 theme’s focus on Jesuit and Guarani heritage; entry to the cultural program is free.

3. IAN RAMIL Solo(opens in a new tab). Wednesday, September 2, at 9pm, at Sgt. Peppers, Rua Quintino Bocaiúva, 256. The voice-and-guitar show revisits Ramil’s trilogy in an intimate room, a good midweek alternative to a large concert.

4. Instituto Ling: cinema, jazz, and a book launch(opens in a new tab). Three useful stops at Rua João Caetano, 440: the film course discusses Muito Barulho por Nada on Tuesday at 7:30pm (R$50/R$25), O Grande Circo Místico on Thursday at 7:30pm (R$50/R$25), and the free launch of As travessias em Grande sertão: veredas on Saturday at 11am.

5. Sketches of Supreme(opens in a new tab). Saturday, September 5, from 4pm to 5pm at Instituto Ling, with free admission. The tribute to the centenaries of Miles Davis and John Coltrane is the week’s concise, low-cost live-music pick.

🌦 The weather

• The week starts partly cloudy on Monday at 33/24°C, then stays clear from Tuesday through Sunday, with highs of 33-34°C and lows of 24-25°C. Rain looks unlikely throughout. The practical takeaway: plan shade and water for daytime events, and bring a light layer for the evening.
